Southwest Center for HIV/AIDS Inc is Hiring a Prevention specialist Near Apache Junction, AZ

Description :

At Southwest Center, the Prevention Specialist provides competent and confidential counseling and testing with high-risk individuals for HIV, Hepatitis C (HCV), Syphilis and other sexually transmitted infections (STI).

In this role, you will provide prevention education services, community resource navigation, and outreach to individuals engaging in high-risk behaviors.

You'll use your high level of cultural competency to serve the unique needs of transgender individuals and communities as well as the broader LGBTQIA2S community with empathy and non- judgement.

Daily, Prevention Specialists contribute to the Southwest Center mission of providing affirming and inclusive services to promote well-being and advance health equity for diverse communities and all those seeking compassionate care - especially people of color, LGBTQIA2S and Queer individuals, and those affected by HIV.

Tuesday - Friday; Fridays 8 : 00am- 5 : 00pm; Tuesday - Thursday 8 : 00- 7 : 00pm

What your day will look like at Southwest Center :

  • You will conduct confidential HIV & STI counseling, testing and referral (CTR), in accordance with state guidelines, with individuals engaging in high-risk behaviors
  • You will record all contacts and activities into all system databases and EMR within 24 hours of encounter.
  • You will complete and submit all testing information in accordance with state policy (e.g., completion of appropriate testing forms, entering tests into web-based reporting system), filing the complete within 72 hours of receiving final lab results.
  • You will distribute approved education materials and safer sex materials to persons engaging in high-risk behaviors.
  • You may conduct one-on-one educations sessions and assessments with clients, to include referrals for internal and external services (e.

g., pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP), post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP), treatment, and general wellness / primary care.

  • You will perform PrEP navigation sessions with inquiring clients and those that meet criteria / qualify.
  • You will also assist clients with PrEP resources and applications, as well as assist in insurance acquisition.
  • You will work directly with the HIV / STI Prevention Supervisor to identify clients appropriate for same-day treatment or clinician evaluation.
  • You may collaboratively work with the Prevention Department to further develop and evolve the needs of the department, including but not limited to, policy reformation, training new-hires, and identifying opportunities of growth and improvement within the agency.
  • You will use a personal vehicle to transport specimens and results to and from local laboratories and complete a month-end report for work-related mileage reimbursement.
  • You will work directly with the department manager and lead with other prevention-related tasks.

Requirements :

Who we're looking for :

  • You've graduated from High School or completed your GED.
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English quarterly bilingual pay incentive in addition to hourly rate!
  • You possess a valid driver's license, insurable driving record, and access to a reliable personal vehicle for work-related activities.

Full understanding of HIPAA and protecting patient confidentiality.

  • You have an understanding of medical terminology.
  • You're a highly organized self-starter with excellent problem-solving skills and ability to multi-task effectively and is willing to learn.
  • You have excellent written and verbal communication.
  • You have the ability to work in fast paced environment with changing deadlines and priorities while maintaining a positive attitude.
  • You have demonstrated cultural competency to professionally and respectfully serve the LGBTQIA2S communities required.
  • All agency employees must be able to work effectively in a mission-driven agency whose clients and staff exhibit significant diversity with respect to race, ethnicity, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, socio-economic status, nationality, and religion.

Environmental Factors, Physical Requirements, and Compliance

  • Work primarily in a climate-controlled environment with minimal safety / health hazard potential.
  • Office environment, exposure to computer screens for lengthy periods of time.
  • Travel outside of the Phoenix region approximately 10% of the time.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk, sit, stand; use hands, talk, and hear.

The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus.

  • Currently have, or be able to obtain within 90 days of employment, a valid Fingerprint Clearance Card
  • Currently have, or are able to obtain within 7 days of employment, a clear TB test
  • Currently have, or are able to obtain within 7 days of employment, a current flu vaccination
  • Currently have, or are able to initiate within 7 days of employment, a Hepatitis-B primary vaccination series
  • Currently have, or are able to obtain within 14 days of employment, a CPR certification
